…or the idea that we cannot put our energy into the future when it is still focused on the past
My aunt was trying to explain this New Years practice to me this week and I was all “You mean like that episode of Friends when all the girls burn old mementos of their ex boyfriends and then the hot firemen show up and they’re all, ‘typical Valentines day.’?” Except my aunt never watched Friends so she wasn’t sure. We’ll say it’s exactly like Friends.
2012 was actually a pretty tremendous year. Euphoria Girl came into being. I learned to keep bees, ride a horse, trapeze, zip line. I faced my fear of night swimming and falling. I became a Whovian, adventured, went to a bazillion concerts, got a tattoo, turned 30, and laughed and danced and acted ridiculous with the greatest friends in the whole world.
Still, no adventure is perfect. There are battles to fight, lessons to learn, obstacles and villains along the way. 2013 holds a new move (I’m leaving my wonderful Austin) and many grand adventures. So here is to taking my energies out of the negatives last year so I can focus on the adventure to come! Happy New Year.
