I have been sitting on my couch for the past hour or so writing a blog post about the last few weeks. They have been a struggle. Except I got all the way to the end of the post and thought, “ugh, this is crap. I don’t want to write this whiny post about work.” So I trashed it. Here’s the recap: Work exploded and I was asked to do too much. I cried a lot (because exhaustion) and then put on my big girl pants and said, “If I am going to do a good job, I need help” and then I got it. Because something life seems super complicated and unreasonable and it really isn’t. End recap.
I am tired (because the work struggle) and don’t have a wonderful, long narrative in me. So today I bring you “Accidental Shorts”. A series of short blog posts.
This week I time traveled to occupied France during WWII from the comfort of my balcony, with wine. This story is about two sisters and their experiences during the war. Love, intrigue, turmoil, resistance, plot twists, tears, and definite ugly cry by the end. Read it.
My book club is reading The Year Of Yes, by Shonda Rimes. It’s like that Jim Carey movie, Yes Man, but real life, and not actually saying yes to everything, because that’s just silly. We have challenged ourselves to say yes to something that we wouldn’t normally say yes to and then we will share our experiences at our next meeting. I have decided to say yes to swimming in the morning at Barton Springs. I have previously said no because morning, cold water, and fear of non chlorinated (and sometimes even chlorinated) water. I haven’t actually done it yet. I have 10 more days…
Things That Don’t Help My Anxiety
At least twice this week I have gone to the bathroom, looked at my bowels afterwards (don’t you?) and felt immediate panic because, “OH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING TO MY BODY???” until I remembered I had beets for dinner the night before.
Every. Damn. Time.
Accidental Breaking Bad
I went to one of those puzzle rooms this week that’s all the rage. I didn’t really know what to expect, but we ended up making meth and escaping the Mexican cartel. You know, typical Thursday. I had a lot of fun. There were lots of props and I wore all of them.
Shows I have binged in the past few months
The Americans–damn this show is good
How To Get Away With Murder (season 2)–um, at this point how many murders is it even okay that they’re getting away with…too much. It’s just too much.
Better Call Saul (Season 2)–It’s better than Breaking Bad. I said it and I won’t take it back. It’s that good.
Broad City–Yas queen!
Fargo–They start every episode by telling me it’s based on a true story. If even a fraction of the events are true, that’s still pretty messed up! Awesome show though.
Silicon Valley–The episode where Jared gets stuck in the self driving car still makes me laugh every time I think about it.
In Fashion News…
I am currently obsessed with hats. ALL OF THEM! Also smiling without showing my teeth apparently…
