UM SERIOUSLY! Can we discuss this book for a minute? Minimal character development, fantastical creatures that are not entirely explained, dragons suckling at teets, and ZOMBIES that aren’t actually called zombies even though the undead by any other name are still zombies! When they say “winter is coming” do they mean that literally or metaphorically because 800 pages later I AM STILL NOT ENTIRELY SURE! I am still debating if I want to read the second book. I’m not optimistic that it will answer any of the 4,000 questions that were left unanswered in this first book.
My father and I have been reading Mary Stewart’s fantastic series that explores the Arthurian legend through the eyes of Merlin, who is one of the better characters I have read in a while. I want to be his best friend and hang in his cave sipping wine and listen to him play the harp. This is the second book and covers Arthur’s childhood years and Merlin’s continued badassness.
