I finished the last in the Merlin trilogy by Mary Stewart. The Last Enchantment was my least favorite of the three as it was only a slightly satisfying end to my summer with Merlin. But it was such a great summer spent with this remarkable character. I also loved reading all of them with my dad and having someone to discuss them with.
It took me most of the summer to read Cannery Row by John Steinbeck, even though it was the shortest of the books I read. This was mainly because I would read a few chapters between the other novels I was reading.
I recommended The Witch Of Blackbird Pond to one of my students. I remember loving it when I read it in middle school and decided that was as good a reason as any to re-read it. I do so enjoy children’s lit, especially when it features strong heroines.
My children’s lit kick brought up The Girl Who Could Fly as my next read. A great peace of children’s fantasy. The only problem was facing the reality that I am not the girl who can fly and that’s just something I am going to have to live with…for now.
